Affordable and Accommodating Upright Open MRI Services
We understand that getting an MRI scan is not most people’s favorite activity. Whether it’s the confined space, the noise, or general anxiety, you aren’t alone in dreading this exam. That’s why we strive to offer same-day Upright Open MRI appointments at Florida MRI Centers, and why we’re open on Saturdays.
While magnetic resonance imaging has revolutionized medicine over the past 25 years, our staff and patients feel that Upright Open MRI machines are one of the most meaningful innovations. This option gives you peace-of-mind and gives your physician the absolute best diagnostic images possible.
Advantages of the Upright Open MRI
The Upright Open MRI offers quite a few benefits without any drawbacks, fully earning its title of “the most patient-friendly MRI in the world.” After completing their Upright Open MRI exam at Florida MRI, many of our patients say they love how “truly open” the machine is.
While an Open MRI machine is only somewhat open, the upright version does not enclose you in any way. Instead, you can see the entire room and won’t feel claustrophobic at all. The other major difference with an Upright Open MRI is that you can be scanned in any position: standing, sitting, or even bending. For certain conditions, this will help your physician make an accurate diagnosis much faster.
Even better, getting your MRI in a weight-bearing position often leads to more legible, reliable, and accurate diagnostic images. While you’re lying down, certain issues may not be obvious. It could potentially take multiple traditional MRI scans to discover these conditions, whereas the Upright Open MRI can detect them immediately.
What You Need to Know
The most important thing to know before coming in for your appointment is that our staff will do absolutely everything in their power to keep you comfortable during the scan. Our top priority is getting images for your physician the very first time so you don’t have to return for additional scans.
Every technologist we employ is fully certified and dedicated to making your scan as stress-free as possible. During an Upright Open MRI, you can see your technologist the entire time and communicate with them freely. If you do experience discomfort at any point, let them know right away.
Before you come in for your appointment, we’ll discuss any preparation you may need to do ahead of time, such as fasting or coordinating contrast dye. Please let us know if you are nursing, pregnant, or may be pregnant prior to the appointment.
What to Expect
Our location has a spacious parking lot to make your experience as easy as possible. When you check in for your appointment, we’ll review your information and discuss any questions you have prior to the Upright Open MRI scan.
For your safety, metal isn’t allowed during the scan. We’ll review a checklist of common items like piercings, hearing aids, metal implants, and pins, among other things. You’ll be asked to change into a gown, and provided with secure storage for your belongings during the MRI scan.
Most people who have struggled with MRI appointments in the past—including Open MRI machines—report that the Upright Open MRI is a completely different experience. There’s absolutely no feelings of claustrophobia for many people, and the noise level is far lower than a traditional MRI.
We understand feeling nervous for a medical appointment, especially if you’ve never had an Open Upright MRI before. But you can rest assured knowing the experience will be one of the easiest medical exams you’ve ever had.
